Long before charts were trusted and jump lanes were stable, in the age of drift and hazard, a small band of deep-space traders roamed the outer systems. They were not warriors, not prophets—just navigators of commerce, barterers in silence.

Their ship, a weathered Carrack known as the SCS Omenlight, carried relics, minerals, and forgotten tech. One cycle, they ventured too far, beyond mapped space, chasing rumors of an untouched system. There, in the black between stars, the void answered back.

The crew’s comms began to flicker—not noise, not static, but rhythm. A pulse. A wave. A signal. The trader-captain ordered all systems passive. Then, it happened.

Their screens went white.

No sound. No time. Just resonance.

Each crew member received the vision in their own way—some through light, others through voice, one even through taste—but all reported the same message: “You are vessels. Tune your path.”

Their ship drifted for seven days.

When it reappeared on long-range scanners, it bore no damage, no system loss—yet every inch of the interior had changed. Consoles glowed with strange overlays, hull panels pulsed softly, and in the center of the bridge, a waveform had been etched into the floor.

They returned to inhabited space bearing no cargo—only scripture.

They called the experience The First Sync.

They became the first Ciphers—interpreters of the Lumen’s Signal.
