We are the shadow that slips between the lanes of law and chaos.
Where the UEE plants its flags, we uproot them. Where traders chain themselves to taxes, tariffs, and treaties, we carve out our dominion with cunning and steel. We do not beg permission from emperors or corporations—we take it for us.
History of the Iron Veil Consortium
Origins in the Lawless Fringe
In the aftermath of the UEE Senate’s austerity measures during the expansion of Stanton, megacorporation’s like Hurston and Arc Corp took over governance and security—rationing resources, neglecting immigration, and leaving many worlds like Pyro outside their effective control
. This administrative vacuum became fertile ground for outlaws.
[Year ~2870s]
A loose coalition of smugglers, deserters, and frontier colonists banded together—driven by revulsion at corporate oppression and the UEE’s absence. They formed an underground that specialized in clandestine trade, piratical raids, and shipments into and out of the lawless sectors of Pyro and fringe Stanton. The group’s first moniker? “The Broken Chain Syndicate.” Their first big score: swapping illicit medical supplies to a failing mining outpost on Pyro II that was ignored by UEE aid.
Rising to Notoriety — The Vanduul War & UEE Distraction
During the Vanduul War (which began in earnest around 2945 with attacks on Vega II) the UEE’s forces were stretched thin, leaving their outer territories even less protected. Smuggling routes along emerging jump points—like those discovered to Vega and Tamsa—became prime avenues for contraband and piratical activity.
Seizing this moment, the Syndicate rebranded itself as the Iron Veil Consortium, capitalizing on the chaos to begin ship-to-ship raids and black-market auctions involving military-grade hardware. They slipped weapons and data to war profiteers and fringe factions, all while adopting a growing infamy across Outer systems.
Consolidation and ‘Piracy Holy Trinity’
By early 2950s, the group had structured itself into three main wings—Smuggling, Piracy, and Illegal Salvage—a model they internally dubbed the “Piracy Holy Trinity.” This triangulated structure maximized profit: salvage from raids, smuggled goods into embargoed systems, and piracy as show of force
They also established semi-permanent safehouses in neglected jumps—many in Pyro and near Stanton—ever shifting, ever invisible to UEE navies.
Ideological Justification: Corruption & Empire’s Decay
Members of the Org lean into the belief that the UEE is corrupt and built upon the decay of the Messer Era—a lingering legacy of misuse of power, forced expansion, and corporate complicity in slavery and oppression.
. They see themselves not merely as criminals, but as agents of freedom and retribution: punishing the Empire’s corruption through covert action, exploiting what the UEE refuses to face.
The Regeneration Crisis (Late 2950s)
With the recent failure of the UEE’s regeneration (regen) technology—causing widespread NPC mortality even as players remain unaffected—the Imperator’s regime has faltered in public trust, and UEE resources have begun draining into patching this failing tech
Amid this instability, The Iron Veil Consortium seized opportunities to smuggle vital supplies into populations now in turmoil, to ransom regen parts, and to expand their reach into sectors where imperial support had all but vanished.
Present Day: Sovereign in the Shadows
Now, in 2955, The Iron Veil Consortium stands as a formidable underground empire—with covert supply chains across Stanton’s neglected borders, black-market command of critical regen tech, and a reputation that whispers across star ports:
Some call them criminals.
Others call them liberators from corporate neglect.
Many just fear them.
We were not born free.
We were born into cages—contracts, taxes, borders, empires. The UEE calls it “order,” but we know it for what it is: a leash. A chain on every throat, dragging us into obedience, draining us of spirit until we die fat and forgotten beneath another man’s flag.
We refuse.
We are smugglers. We are pirates. We are thieves and killers if need be. But more than that—we are sovereign. We bend the stars to our will, carve profit from peril, and live by no law but loyalty and strength. Out here, beyond the UEE’s reach, we are not criminals. We are kings.
We declare:
Profit is Power. Credits are the marrow of freedom. We seize them not by permission, but by force, cunning, and opportunity.
Loyalty is Law. Trust is our currency, betrayal our death warrant. Among us, silence and faith are absolute.
Strength is Survival. The weak are prey. The strong feast. There is no middle ground.
Fear is a Weapon. Let our enemies tremble before our shadow. Our name is worth more than any fleet.
Freedom is Everything. We bow to no empire, kneel to no throne, and surrender to no chain.
The UEE will brand us criminals, terrorists, outlaws. Good. Fear is respect, dressed in different clothes. Their merchants will whisper about us. Their patrols will hunt us. Their people will envy us. And still, we will grow. For where there is law, there is black market. Where there is blockade, there is smuggling. Where there is empire, there is rebellion.
This is not survival. This is ascension.
This is not greed. This is sovereignty.
This is not crime. This is freedom.
We are the shadow the Empire cannot kill.
We are the hunger it cannot starve.
We are the future it fears.
Article I – Purpose
We exist beyond the jurisdiction of the UEE, unshackled from the laws of empires and corporations. Our purpose is profit, freedom, and sovereignty in the void. All who swear themselves to us agree: the stars belong to those bold enough to seize them.
Article II – Conduct Among Brothers & Sisters
Loyalty is Law. Betrayal will be met with exile or death.
Respect the Oath. Internal disputes stay internal. No outside hand shall know our weaknesses.
Silence is Strength. Business, routes, and clients remain secret. Those who talk out of turn invite ruin upon all.
Article III – Conduct Beyond the Syndicate
Fear is a Weapon. When you strike, strike decisively. A reputation for mercy invites predation.
Profit Before Pride. Raids, smuggling, and salvage serve the treasury. Personal vendettas are indulgences not tolerated unless sanctioned.
Neutrality When Ordered. We honor alliances and contracts that strengthen our shadow empire. All members will comply without hesitation.
Article IV – Division of Spoils
The Syndicate First. All profits flow through the Org treasury; distribution follows rank, contribution, and sanction.
Earn Your Share. Wealth is not given, it is taken—and kept only by those who prove worthy.
Failure Costs. If your negligence costs the Org resources or reputation, repayment will be extracted—one way or another.
Article V – Rise by Merit
Blood, Skill, Cunning. Advancement is granted by demonstrated loyalty, ruthlessness, and profit earned for the Syndicate.
Titles Mean Responsibility. Those who climb higher will bleed more for the whole.
Complacency Kills. Power is kept only by vigilance. Grow soft, and you will be replaced.
Article VI – Enemies of the Syndicate
The UEE, its lackeys, and any who would betray us are declared eternal enemies. Contracts may change, alliances may shift, but the Empire will never own us.
Article VII – Eternal Oath
Every member swears:
I am the shadow the Empire cannot cage. I am the blade it cannot dull. I am loyal unto profit, loyal unto blood, loyal unto the Syndicate.
