“I do solemnly pledge, mind and body, that I will serve and protect the United Empire of Earth against all who would seek to harm it and its people” … is how the pledge starts.

Where service goes after the pledge is always more complex, and grey. Gryphon Squadron acts in the grey with integrity.

History

Gryphon Squadron

Founding Origin:

Born in the shadows of the Vanduul War, Gryphon Squadron was founded by UEE Navy commander, Cpt. Sarj Blightreaver, after witnessing firsthand the catastrophic impact on resources during the defense of Vega II. As single-seat craft fell in droves and fleet assets were destroyed in mass, Blightreaver recognized while the immense sacrifice made by the 2nd Fleet was heroic and necessary in setting up the historic Squadron 42 blow on a Kingship. He also wanted to find a path to push that decisive victory in front of a greater loss of life.

Gryphon’s course was then set to be one of the many specialists groups the UEE Navy commissioned in the aftermath of the war, and prevention of the next.

In 2946, the UEE established Gryphon Squadron under a special mandate within the UEE Special Operations Command, focusing on multi-crew tactical cohesion. Instead of relying on swarms of independent ships, Gryphon’s directive was to operate in single capital flight groups and affect change with the least amount of resource spend possible.

Gryphon’s mission was simple to the members, be the squadron that prevents wars by winning them before they manifest.

Philosophy & Doctrine:

Inspired by the mythical creature—the Gryphon, a hybrid of eagle and lion—the squadron embodies precision and power, with unmatched synergy between their crew positions. They believe that no ship or individual is greater than its crew, and no mission is unwinnable when unity is absolute.

Their doctrine centers around:

Integrated Combat Systems: Pilots, gunners, engineers, and tacticians train together from day one. Cross-training is mandatory—every member knows every station.

Command Craft Focus: Capital-class and multi-crew ships like the Hammerhead, Idris, and Polaris are their weapons of choice.

Adaptive Strategy: Gryphon excels in asymmetric warfare, capital escort, deep recon, and capital interdiction. Their tactics are fluid, often confusing enemies who underestimate the coordination of their crews.

Notable Engagements:

The Armitage Breach (2947): Gryphon Squadron held a collapsing defense line at Orion’s edge, using a formation of retaliators and a single Idris to ambush a Vanduul clan, disabling two capital ships without a single crew casualty.

Operation Veilpoint (2949): Infiltrated a pirate-run asteroid refinery in Cathcart. Gryphon’s multi-crew stealth insertion on a modified Carrack led to the recovery of a stolen prototype RSI AI core.

Siege of New Pyro (2952): Gryphon led a convoy defense operation through uncharted jump points, coordinating multiple crews across rough terrain and hostile ambushes, ensuring evacuation of 2,000 civilians.

Operation MedBait (2952) Gryphon was tasked with eradicating a multi-system plot to disrupt emergency services in an attempt to drive anarchy. They were so effective in it that some local systems accused Gryphon pilots of being the aggressors they had destroyed.

Operation Foxtrot (2953-2955) missions are classified under agreement with the PMC that Gryphon was assigned to by the UEE. The only visual record is that multiple ‘Fox’ heraldries are still permitted in Gryphon Squadron.

Current Status:

In 2955, Gryphon operates as a semi-autonomous fleet, with detachments working in tandem with UEE Navy task forces, advocacy agents, and even trusted civilian contractors. They are often the first called when a mission is too complex for lone wolves, too dangerous for large capital fleets, and too sensitive for public eyes.
