Formation
The Freeport Merchant Lancers emerged in 2942, during a period of chaos following the Second Tevarin War, when trade routes in outer systems like Pyro became contested. The organization started as a loose coalition of independent traders and freelancers, led by a mysterious figure called “Lord Growl” offering funding and protection from pirates.
Operations
It was only after the coalition acquired a Kraken capital ship, renaming it “Freeport,” that the “Freeport Merchant Lancers” was registered as an organization in official UEE records. The ship was turned it into a mobile hub for armed trade convoys, exploiting lucrative but dangerous routes and uniting the freelancers under one banner.
Lawfulness and Reputation
Official UEE records list FML as a legitimate consortium, putting away any doubt of our legality. Stories of ruthless deals and rumors of a profit-driven, possibly unethical approach are greatly exaggerated. While we do maintain a strong military force, that is only to ensure safe delivery of our services to industry and trade.
Base of Operations
“Freeport,” our Kraken base is described as a den of opportunity, attracting smugglers, mercenaries, and entrepreneurs with offers of trade, repairs, and drinks, all under the protection of its heavily armed turrets. This mobile fortress operates in lawless regions, like in Pyro, where UEE law offer little protection to innocent civilians. Freeport is currently under repairs in Odyssa.
