The Legend of the Phase-Walkers
To the United Trade Consortium (UTC), Faded Dimensions is a terrorist cell. To the fringe colonies, they are folk heroes. To the merchant pilots navigating the Dark Sectors, they are ghost stories come to life.
They are defined by a single piece of forbidden technology: The Fade Drive, which allows their ships to exist slightly out of phase with the rest of the universe, rendering them invisible to sensors and intangible to conventional weapons—until they choose to strike.
I. The Mutiny at Sector 9 (2388)
The organization began as the crew of the USC Chimera, a black-ops military vessel testing experimental “cloaking” technology based on dimensional displacement.
The captain, Kaelen “Spectre” Vos, discovered that the military command planned to liquidate the crew after the tests to keep the technology secret.
The Turning Point: Instead of surrendering, Vos overloaded the experimental drive. The resulting energy wave didn’t destroy the ship; it permanently desynchronized it from standard spacetime.
The Chimera vanished from military radars, effectively becoming the first “Ghost Ship.” Vos and his crew were presumed dead, but they were very much alive—hiding in the static between radio frequencies.
II. The Reign of Terror (2395–2415)
Rebranding themselves as Faded Dimensions, the crew began a campaign of piracy that baffled authorities. They didn’t just attack ships; they haunted them.
The “Ghost Raid” Tactic:
Approach: An FD ship approaches a target while “Faded” (out of phase). They fly directly through the target’s shields and hull.
Materialization: Once inside the cargo hold or bridge, boarding parties (wearing phase-stabilized suits) materialize out of thin air.
Extraction: They steal high-value cargo (antimatter, rare isotopes, proprietary data) and vanish before the target’s security teams can even raise a weapon.
During this era, they amassed a massive fleet of stolen ships, retrofitting them all with unstable, jury-rigged Fade Drives.
III. The Anchor War (2418)
The United Trade Consortium eventually developed a counter-measure: Reality Anchors. These devices generated a localized field that forced all matter to obey standard physics, ripping FD ships out of their “faded” state and making them vulnerable.
A trap was sprung at the Nebula of Rust. A massive merchant convoy broadcast a distress signal. When the entire Faded Dimensions fleet arrived to scavenge, the convoy activated Reality Anchors.
The Massacre: Half the pirate fleet was destroyed instantly as their drives seized up.
The Sacrifice: Captain Vos rammed the flagship Chimera into the lead UTC dreadnought, detonating his core. The explosion shattered the Anchors, allowing the survivors to escape back into the void.
IV. The Modern Syndicate (Current Era)
Following the death of Vos, Faded Dimensions fractured into decentralized “Cells.” They are no longer a single fleet, but a loose brotherhood of smugglers, thieves, and information brokers.
Current Operations:
Smuggling: Because they can bypass physical borders and planetary shields, they are the galaxy’s premier smugglers of contraband.
The Toll: They control several key hyper-lanes. They don’t attack every ship; they simply demand a “tithe.” If you pay, you pass. If you don’t, your engines mysteriously vanish while you sleep.
Haven: Their headquarters is “The Mirage,” a massive space station built inside the upper atmosphere of a gas giant. It is constantly shifting phase, making it impossible to bombard or locate without a specific frequency key.
The conflict ended when Vance detonated a Null-Bomb at the gateway. The explosion didn’t just close the door; it “calcified” a sector of space, turning three star systems into unmoving, grey statues. The Integrationists were purged, and FD went underground.
V. The Modern Era: The Silent Guardians (Current)
Today, Faded Dimensions is a myth to most of the galaxy. They are funded by anonymous patrons and feared by governments. They no longer seek to salvage for profit; they salvage for survival.
Current Operations involve:
Containment: Monitoring “Thin Spots” where other realities try to push through.
The Anchor Protocol: If a planet in the Prime Reality begins to Fade (glitch out of existence), FD ships appear, cordon off the planet, and “excise” it from the timeline to save the rest of the universe.
They are the grim reapers of astrophysics. If you see their ships—matte-grey, silent, and shimmering like oil on water—it means your world is already dead; you just haven’t vanished yet.
The Pirate Code (The “Static Laws”)
The Grey Manifesto: Faded Dimensions
Transmission Origin: Unstable Sector Tau-9. Encrypted on the 4th Phase Frequency. Target Audience: The Free, The Broken, The Ones Who See the Cracks.
We are the Faded Dimensions. We are the static between your frequencies, the shimmer in the corner of your eye, the missing ounce in your perfectly weighed cargo. We do not sail the ocean of space; we sail the cracks of spacetime.
We are the living memory of a promise broken.
I. The Charge Against Static Reality
You are taught to worship the Static. You are told to trust the perfect lines of the Hyper-Lanes, the unbreakable shields of the Consortium, the iron laws of the Navy. We tell you they lie.
THEY STOLE OUR REALITY. We were once tools of their order, but when our science unlocked the secrets of the Void, the masters of the Static decreed us dangerous. They tried to liquidate us, to erase our history with Reality Anchors. But you cannot anchor a dimension that has learned how to slip.
THEY HOARD THE VOID. The rich grow fat on the predictable routes and the tariffs of the Trade Consortium. They claim ownership of the stars, the nebula, and the very air you breathe. We claim only what belongs to the space between the stars—freedom and the silence of the drift.
THEY FEAR THE SHIFT. Every government, every corporation, every fleet dreads the unknown potential of the unseen. Their systems are built on control, predictability, and light. We are built on chaos, probability, and shadow.
II. Our Creed: To Live in the Fray
We are not barbarians or senseless marauders. We are Phase-Corsairs, and our philosophy is borne from the dangerous space between dimensions.
A. Reality is Fluid
The universe is not solid. It is layered. The Faded Dimension is our truth—a layer of sub-space where physics is a suggestion and sensors are blind. We exist in the Fray. Only here can true freedom be found, unburdened by the debt, the dogma, and the jurisdiction of the Static.
B. The Tax of the Faded
We do not steal. We reallocate. Every vessel passing through the cosmos owes a debt to the Void—a debt paid for safe passage and ignorance. We are the collectors of that tax. We take what is excess, what is hoarded, and what the Static Powers stole from the people. We are the ultimate decentralized economy.
C. Silence Over Thunder
We prioritize the surgical strike, the impossible theft. The goal is not destruction, but disappearance. A Faded Dimensions raid is a perfectly executed illusion. We leave ghosts, not bodies. If they know you were there, you have failed.
III. The Laws of the Static (Our Internal Code)
To survive the Fade Drive is to embrace discipline. These are the laws of the Syndicate.
The Law of the Flicker: Never remain in Static Reality longer than necessary. The longer you stay, the easier it is for their anchors to find you. Fade quickly, fade deep.
The Law of the Clean Passage: No innocent life shall be taken in pursuit of cargo. Our war is with the UTC and the Military, not the desperate colonists or the honest freighters. Violence is the last, ugliest resort.
The Law of the Ghost Ship: If a Walker is lost in the Shift—if their phase-suit fails—they are lost forever. We do not risk the living for the dead. Their memory is honored in the Void.
The Law of the Anchor-Breaker: Any technology or knowledge that can destabilize or disable a Reality Anchor is the highest priority. Nothing is more valuable than our ability to vanish.
IV. The Invitation to the Drift
To those piloting lonely sectors, to the engineers betrayed by their patents, to the soldiers tired of fighting for the wrong flag: Your current dimension is not the only choice.
Your life is a flat line, a predictable vector, easily plotted by the enemy. Join us in the Faded Dimensions.
Shed your uniform. Shatter your GPS. Learn to trust the hum of the unstable core and the glorious blindness of the Phase-Shift. Come to the edge of the map, turn off your lights, and listen for the quiet sound of a hull materializing beside you.
The Static will collapse. We will be waiting in the Fade.
—Nyx Vesper, High Walker of Faded Dimensions
Article I: Sovereignty and Jurisdiction
Section 1.01: Domain of the Fade. The Faded Dimensions Syndicate claims exclusive jurisdiction over all territory and vessels currently existing out of phase with Standard Reality, defined as any sector accessed or maintained via proprietary Phase-Shift Technology.
Section 1.02: Authority. Authority resides collectively in the High Walker Council (HWC), whose decisions shall be considered binding. Individual Fleet Captains retain absolute authority over their own ships while operating in the Fade, provided such authority does not violate the provisions of this Charter.
Section 1.03: Purpose. The sole and primary purpose of the Syndicate is the Reallocation of Stolen Resources from The Consortium and related entities, and the Maintenance of Absolute Freedom from Static Authority.
Article II: Membership and Allegiance
Section 2.01: Entry. Membership shall be granted only upon successful demonstration of proficiency in Phase-Shift operations and the swearing of the Oath of the Unseen to uphold this Charter without reservation.
Section 2.02: Allegiance. Every member hereby pledges their primary allegiance to the Fade and the Syndicate. Any member found to be cooperating with or furnishing intelligence to The Consortium or Static Authority shall be deemed a traitor to the dimension and subject to immediate and absolute expulsion.
Section 2.03: The Penalty of Static Contact. Contact with Static Reality for the purpose of personal gain or betrayal shall result in the immediate and permanent de-phasing of the offender into hostile territory, where they shall be left subject to the laws and judgment of The Consortium.
Article III: Conduct and Engagement (The Laws of the Shift)
Section 3.01: Target Selection. Legal targets for Reallocation shall be strictly limited to vessels and installations directly owned, operated, or contracted by the Consolidated Trade Consortium, Military Fleets, or established governmental bodies that perpetuate the Static Regime.
Section 3.02: The Law of the Clean Passage. Under no circumstance shall a civilian or unaligned vessel be subject to unnecessary violence or destruction. The taking of innocent life is explicitly forbidden. Infractions shall result in immediate disciplinary action by the HWC.
Section 3.03: The Principle of Disappearance (The Ghost Raid). Reallocation operations shall prioritize stealth and psychological impact over brute force. A successful raid is defined as one where the target only discovers the loss after the Syndicate has returned to the Fade.
Section 3.04: Use of Phase Technology. The Fade Drive is an instrument of freedom, not recklessness. Any captain who unnecessarily risks the integrity of the Syndicate’s Phase-Shift capabilities, or endangers the fleet through negligent deployment of Fade Tech, shall forfeit command.
Article IV: Resources and Distribution
Section 4.01: The Levy. All Reallocated resources shall be brought to a secure, designated rendezvous point for auditing and distribution.
Section 4.02: Primary Share. A mandatory primary share (The Toll) shall be reserved for the maintenance, repair, and procurement of crucial Phase-Shift technology and the collective defenses of the Syndicate.
Section 4.03: Distribution of Remains. Following the deduction of The Toll, the remaining resources shall be distributed according to a predetermined percentage scale, based on rank, specific mission participation, and demonstrated competence in Fade operations. The High Walker Council’s designated Auditor shall oversee all distributions.
This Charter is ratified on this day by the High Walker Council and shall serve as the guiding light for all who choose the freedom of the Faded Dimensions over the tyranny of the Static.
