History

Founding and Origins (2897–2902)
Dark Matter Security (DMS) was founded in 2897 by former UEE Navy intelligence officer Commander Adrien Kessan, a decorated but disillusioned veteran of the Vanduul front. After witnessing repeated failures of centralized command to adapt to asymmetric threats and protect fringe colonies, Kessan went rogue—choosing instead to form a decentralized, elite paramilitary force capable of striking first, gathering actionable intelligence, and defending clients without bureaucratic delay.

The organization began as a loose network of ex-military operators, freelance pilots, and cyber warfare specialists operating in the Oberon and Pyro systems, where lawlessness and corporate exploitation were rampant. Their early missions focused on convoy protection, high-risk extractions, and counter-piracy in regions ignored by the Advocacy and UEE military.

Rise to Power (2903–2915)
Between 2903 and 2915, DMS grew from a fringe mercenary outfit into a formidable private security force. Their turning point came during the Red Halo Conflict in the Cathcart system, where DMS operatives successfully repelled a combined force of Nine Tails and outlawed elements from Hurston Dynamics who were attempting to seize control of an experimental orbital refinery.

The success earned DMS both notoriety and powerful corporate patrons. Over the next decade, they quietly signed black contracts with megacorps such as ArcCorp, microTech, and allegedly Crusader Industries—though none have confirmed it publicly. These alliances gave DMS access to cutting-edge tech, stealth craft, and legal gray zones in which to operate.

Modern Era (2916–Present)
By 2916, Dark Matter Security had become a shadowy but respected name across the UEE. Now operating from a classified mobile headquarters—rumored to be a heavily modified Javelin-class destroyer—DMS fields rapid-response teams, electronic warfare divisions, and a classified deep-space intelligence wing known only as Project Umbra.

Despite accusations of operating as a corporate enforcer and even dabbling in assassination-for-hire, DMS maintains a carefully curated public image: a necessary force in an unstable galaxy. They continue to recruit former UEE Navy, Advocacy, and even Banu and Tevarin specialists, reflecting their pragmatic, results-driven culture.

They are known by one motto:
“In shadows, we strike. In silence, we protect.”
