A privateer was a pirate with papers. As the name suggests, privateers were private individuals commissioned by governments to carry out quasi-military activities. If you’re looking for a fight, a good time, and a chance to make some cash through bounties or salvage, join Barrett’s Privateers.
History
Barrett’s Privateers was unofficially formed in SEY 2953, in the wake of the Slicer incursion into Stanton. The founding members are three brothers from very disparate professions: a freelance hauler and commodity trader, a UEE sanctioned bounty hunter, and a freelance gun-for-hire. With the Slicer incursion underway, the brothers formed a loose conglomerate with their peers in an effort to make a profit off of the rapidly evolving situation.
The three brothers applied their unique trades in order to maximize income, finding success and netting generous wages for both themselves and their affiliates. In 2954, the brothers formally organized into a syndicate operating under the name “Barrett’s Privateers”, after a legendary crew of state-sanctioned pirates from 18th century Earth.
Barrett’s Privateers take pride in applying a disparate array of specialties, particularly gunslinging, salvage and bounty hunting, to make their money. While the Privateers usually operate within the confines of UEE law, members have been known to stretch into morally ambiguous territory in the name of profit and vigilantism.
Based out of the Pyro system, and peripherally affiliated with the Headhunters, Barrett’s Privateers are intimately familiar with a life on the fringes of civilization and the law. Consequently, the org often finds its services requisitioned to assist with providing security services, particularly for freelance hauling and mining crews making their way into or out of Pyro. Barrett’s Privateers have, to-date, never failed on a security contract – and have been known to take immense risk in ensuring haulers and miners remain safe.
Manifesto
Barrett’s Privateers is a security, salvage and bounty hunting outfit, operating primarily out of the Pyro system.
The Privateers typically engage in lawful activity, combining bounty-hunting and salvage operations to maximize profit. They occasionally can be found hauling commodities if the goods are there and the price is right. They are known to provide security services for hauling and mining operations due to their familiarity with the Pyro system, often requiring very low wages in the interest of a good scrap with pirates. They do take these operations as a matter of pride, and have never been known to violate a contract.
Barrett’s Privateers operate primarily on the fringes of developed space. Although their definition of “lawful” is broad, they typically function with due regard for life, and have rarely been associated with unsanctioned piracy or murder.
