The 173rd Battle Group of the United Empire of Earth Navy was established in late 2930, during a period of heightened tensions between the UEE and various pirate factions that had begun to proliferate in the outer colonies. Originally conceived as a rapid-response unit to counteract the increasing threat of piracy and Vanduul incursions, the formation of the 173rd was marked by internal skepticism. Many in the higher echelons of the UEE Navy doubted the necessity of a new battle group, believing existing forces could handle the situation. Nevertheless, the pressing need to ensure the safety of trade routes and outer settlements forced the Navy to act.
The 173rd’s first combat test came against a pirate outfit raiding near Pyro’s fringe. Early coordination problems gave way to a disciplined counterattack and a clear win—enough to quiet internal doubts about the new group’s value. (The “Bloodhounds” name survives in unit oral history.)
Under Admiral Evelyn Thorne, the 173rd intercepted a Vanduul raid targeting a civilian convoy. Thorne drove her flagship straight at the threat to buy time for evacuation; the ship was lost, the convoy lived. The battle group adopted “Courage Through Sacrifice” as its motto in 2939 to mark the fifth anniversary of her action.
Alongside elements of other UEEN fleets (incl. attachments commonly operating in Stanton), the 173rd led multi-week anti-piracy sweeps on key shipping corridors. Stanton’s criminal presence—most visibly the Nine Tails, headquartered at GrimHEX—made the system a frequent focus. Debriefs from this period note both decisive interdictions and public debate over collateral risk.
The 173rd cycled through a broad modernization: refitted Idris-class frigates and integration of Polaris-class corvette capability for patrol/strike roles. (Idris is the Navy’s standard frigate line; Polaris is a torpedo corvette suited to patrol, light strike, and militia flagship duties.)
The group’s tasking has emphasized anti-piracy and humanitarian protection, with staging commonly through Stanton (Area 18/Baijini Point) and operations extending to independent space such as Nyx. Nyx remains unclaimed, with the independent settlement Levski on Delamar; instability and outlaw traffic there make it a recurring concern for UEE security forces and auxiliaries.
As of 2955, the 173rd is preparing for sustained operations around Nyx, mindful of recent frontier attacks and the wider Vanduul threat environment. The battle group is commanded by Vice Admiral Marcus Jett, who is known for civilian-first risk calculus and tight evidence discipline on every closure. Core capital capability centers on Idris-class and Polaris-class hulls, supported by multirole strike fighters and logistics assets.

UEEN-101 NAVY REGULATIONS
(Revised 2955)
United Empire of Earth Navy
173rd Battle Group, 2nd Fleet
Official Organizational Charter
§1. DUTY AND DISCIPLINE
All personnel of the 173rd Battle Group, 2nd Fleet are expected to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and integrity. As an active unit within the UEE Navy, our operations, training, and engagements reflect upon the entire fleet. We maintain a lawful presence within the Stanton system and beyond, conducting combat patrols, anti-piracy operations, humanitarian missions, and fleet security assignments as directed.
§2. PRIORITY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Reality Comes First
The UEE Navy does not operate without its personnel, and we recognize that real-world obligations take precedence over service. Family, work, and personal responsibilities come before all in-game duties. No member shall be penalized or criticized for prioritizing real-life commitments.
§3. CONDUCT AND ESPRIT DE CORPS
Respect and Professionalism
Personnel are expected to treat others with respect, both within and outside the organization. As representatives of the UEE Navy, we conduct ourselves with dignity and maintain a professional environment at all times. Harassment, discrimination, or toxic behavior will not be tolerated.
Maintain Unit Morale
While discipline and professionalism are the foundation of any fleet, a strong unit thrives on morale. Banter, camaraderie, and humor are encouraged—but excessive negativity, hostility, or disruptive behavior that undermines the unit will be addressed accordingly.
§4. RANK, ADVANCEMENT, AND FAIRNESS
Earn Your Rank
Promotions and assignments are based on merit, performance, and qualification. There is no fast-tracking or favoritism in the 173rd. All personnel must meet the required standards for their respective roles, complete training, and demonstrate proficiency before being assigned new responsibilities.
Qualification Matters
Certain roles—such as Pilots, Officers, and Command Staff—require additional certification through fleet academies and specialized training programs. These qualifications are in place to ensure unit effectiveness and operational success.
§5. CODE OF CONDUCT
Zero Tolerance for Piracy and Griefing
As a lawful UEE Navy battle group, we actively combat piracy and threats against the Empire. Any engagement in piracy or griefing—against AI or players when in uniform of the 173rd—will result in immediate removal from the organization. Our duty is to protect the innocent, not to become the threat ourselves.
Integrity in Combat and Operations
Exploiting game mechanics, abusing glitches, or engaging in unethical behavior compromises the integrity of our unit and will not be tolerated. Adapt, overcome, and fight with honor.
§6. OPERATIONS AND TRAINING
Fleet-Wide Weekly Operations
The 173rd Battle Group conducts scheduled weekly training and operations. These sessions may take place in the Persistent Universe, Arena Commander, or the PTU/EPTU test environments. Participation is encouraged but not mandatory—real life comes first.
Naval Assets Provided
The UEE Navy supplies its personnel with all necessary equipment and ships. All fleet operations are conducted using navy-provided vessels. There is no requirement for personnel to supply their own ships—from the smallest Argo MPUV to the might of an Idris, the fleet provides.
§7. FINAL PROVISIONS
All officers and enlisted personnel of the 173rd Battle Group, 2nd Fleet are expected to uphold this charter and abide by UEE military regulations. Any violations may result in disciplinary action, reassignment, or discharge from service.
For the Empire.
Signed,
Marcus Jett
Vice Admiral, UEE Navy
