Maverick grew up on a planet beset by an alien menace and entered military service at age 16 as a 2nd lieutenant. Three years later, his unit was betrayed, captured, and used by the enemy in a human augmentation experiment. Lt. Maverick managed to free his men, but was stranded in an escape pod in deep space.
Maverick was picked up by an organization known as Spearhead Industries. He worked as an engineer and security commander until the CEO, Admiral Esarai Sarravana, mysteriously disappeared amidst a suspected technocratic conspiracy and Maverick was seemingly killed in battle by enemies of Spearhead. He did not go easily, ultimately dying from overuse of his augmentations.
Maverick's frozen remains were transported to the Stanton system by unknown means and acquired by Microtech on the black market. Microtech managed to create a viable imprint and revive Maverick, but to date neither he nor Microtech have revealed the fate of the alien nanotechnology in his original body.
