History of Red Nebula Industries (RNI)
Founded: 2167 CE
Founder: Dr. Selene Kael, ex-corporate engineer and defense researcher
Headquarters: MicroTech
Origin and Early Development (2167–2190)
Red Nebula Industries began as a fringe-tech startup focusing on asteroid mining drones and off-world logistics. After breaking away from TitanCorp during a scandal over illegal AI warfare experiments, Dr. Kael used her insider knowledge and loyal rogue engineers to establish RNI in the neutral Epsilon Eridani system.
By 2175, RNI had developed the Modular Extraction Swarm (MES)—self-replicating mining bots that could strip asteroid belts in weeks. This tech was decades ahead of competitors.
Expansion into Private Defense (2190–2210)
Following resource disputes in the Tau Ceti system, RNI began offering “security escort services” to corporate fleets. These were actually paramilitary units, equipped with prototype ships built from their own high-yield materials.
By 2202, RNI launched the Nebula Guard, a private security force that soon evolved into a fully armed mercenary navy, offering services to megacorps, planetary governments, and colonial alliances.
They gained notoriety after a decisive intervention in the Phobos Blockade, where they outmaneuvered two Earth-aligned fleets using stealth-capable cruisers and AI-assisted tactics.
Golden Age of Power (2210–2245)
RNI’s influence exploded after they secured exclusive mining rights to the Xenthium-rich moons of Nyx Delta. Xenthium, a critical element for faster-than-light drives, became the new galactic oil.
They used the profits to fund:
R&D into quantum weapons and cybernetic soldiers.
A fleet of Titan-class dreadnoughts.
The Orbital Arcologies, massive self-sustaining cities and shipyards.
By 2240, RNI controlled 34% of all deep-space mining operations and had military superiority over most independent colonies.
Controversies and Power Struggles (2245–2260)
RNI’s rise wasn’t without friction. Accused of corporate warfare, resource monopolization, and black-site experiments, they became targets of the Galactic Ethics Accord.
In 2252, a failed coup attempt by ex-board members led to the infamous Crimson Purge, where thousands were allegedly executed in secret by RNI’s internal security branch, the Oblivion Corps.
Current Status (2260+)
RNI is now a mega-corporation, balancing on the edge of legitimacy. They are:
Key suppliers of military-grade materials and fleets.
Operate like a sovereign entity, with their own economy, military, and diplomatic corps.
Rumored to be building a Dyson-fragment defense grid—a megastructure encircling a star to power their next-gen weapons.
