History
History of the Jack Rats (Founded 2949)
The Jack Rats were born in 2949 during one of the roughest trade seasons the Stanton system had seen in decades. With corporate blockades tightening and piracy surging, a small group of freelance haulers, salvagers, and outlaws came together on the edges of Yela’s asteroid belt. United by necessity rather than ideology, they shared one thing in common—they were tired of being told how to live, how to fly, and who they could become. These pilots, engineers, gunners, and traders started flying together under no banner but their own, calling themselves the “Jack Rats”—a play on being Jacks of all Trades, and the rats scurrying through the cracks of the system. What started as a loose crew of survivalists evolved into a thriving organization known across the ‘Verse for its grit, versatility, and unpredictable code of honor. From mercenary work and cargo runs to exploration, data smuggling, and the occasional “unofficial reclamation” of lost property, the Jack Rats have made a name for themselves as professionals of the unconventional. They don’t seek war—but if one comes, they don’t fly from it. Over time, the Rats have carved out a legacy built on freedom, trust, and the stories they leave behind in every port, every wreck, and every whispered legend of the stars.

Manifesto of the Jack Rats
We are the ones who write our own fate in the void. We are the Jack Rats—scavengers, warriors, traders, and storytellers. We don’t kneel to corporate greed, UEE propaganda, or pirate kings. We work with who we trust, take what we earn, and fly how we want. Our strength is in our diversity—every skill, every background, every Rat has a place among us. We don’t demand perfection, only loyalty. You pull your weight, you earn your keep. You betray the crew, you’re gone. The ‘Verse is chaos, and we don’t pretend otherwise. But through it, we find our purpose—taking jobs, making credits, and building legends that echo across the systems. Whether we’re saving lives, stealing data, or hauling ore, we do it the Jack Rat way: fast, clever, and never silent. Some call us criminals. Others call us heroes. We just call ourselves free.

No Jack Rat answers to anyone outside the crew. All members are free to take jobs, fly how they wish, and express who they are—so long as it does not compromise the safety or unity of the group.
